Kristen hired Funk Bros DJs for her 50th birthday party with the explicit proviso:
"I want people dancing...and I want lots of Cold Chisel!"
Kristen's party began at 7pm with a super-sized Paella dinner, so we needed to warm guests up slowly. We chose an eclectic selection of Jazz-Funk tunes inc:
"Expansions" by Lonnie Liston-Smith "Think Twice" by Donald Byrd
"It's All Right Now" by Eddie Harris
Once speeches were completed we had one goal in mind - dance floor heat! Mixing well-known classics (MJ, Bowie), with 80s pop requests (Spandau Ballet, The Cure), and Oz Rock (Hoodoo Gurus, INXS) was an enjoyable DJ challenge, and the guests lapped it up. Our highlight of the night was the improvised flash-mob response to...
"Rock Lobster" by The B-52s
It had all the hallmarks of a group-rehearsed dance, paired with the joy of people enjoying themselves immensely.
Other musical highlights included:
"Let's Get It On" by Marvin Gaye
This one surely rekindled some marriages...and made their children cringe in response
"Bow River" by Cold Chisel
Kristen served up her best Barnesy impression whilst being passionately cheered on by guests
"Sympathy for the Devil" by The Rolling Stones
This tune tied with Devo's "Whip It" for most-requested, and was met with an enthusiastic dance-floor response. This tune is a classic for good reason
Thanks for having us, Kristen. We had an absolute blast DJing your birthday!
We're available for hire as birthday DJs in Adelaide if you think a vinyl DJ is the right fit for your birthday or special event.
