“Let me, be the one, you come running to…”
Isabel and Rupert’s wedding took place at Partridge House, Glenelg. The weather was perfect for an Adelaide outdoor wedding and cocktail reception.
Our booking for Isabel and Rupert was structured differently to some other weddings. Isabel supplied two Spotify playlists for us to run for the first half of the reception, as well as two playlists of ideas for us to base our 4 hour set around.
Isabel and Rupert entered the reception to Natalie Cole’s “This Will Be (An Everlasting Love)”. Following this, we continued with Isabel’s jazz and swing playlist.
Once the clock struck 7, we took over the music controls and spun tunes which fit their music brief. Which was: We see the reception starting on romantic jazz/swing numbers (Isabel's favourite) and moving through to 60s/70s soul, into disco, into 80s and 90s dance floor tunes, into all the favourites including heaps of RnB. Basically, anything funky/upbeat/romantic/fun!
Guests were eating pizzas and milling about in conversation. A few energetic guests got onto the dance floor early to a coupla cheeky stepper tunes such as James Brown’s “Soul Power”, Queen’s “Another One Bites the Dust” and Warren Zevon’s “Nighttime in the Switching Yard”.
Following the speeches, it was time for the first dance (Al Green - "Let’s Stay Together") and the dance floor to officially open.
To meet the music brief, here’s an overview of how the dance floor tunes went.
Starting with a run of mid-tempo 70s soulful numbers - "Superstition", "Ain’t Nobody", "All Night Long".
Followed by disco winners - "I’m Every Woman", CHIC/Sister Sledge. Next, a bit of uptempo 90s/00s pop e.g. "Groove Is In the Heart" and Shania Twain.
After this, 30min of RnB mash-ups inc. "No Diggity", "In Da Club", and "Drop It Like It’s Hot".
Finally, ending the night with some clubby bounce courtesy of FISHER (“Losing It”) and Fedde Le Grand (“Put Your Hands Up For Detroit”).
Isabel and Rupert’s closing song was Cher "Believe".
Such a fun night - we couldn’t get the guests to leave!
