The 2023 SA Architecture Awards were held at the Adelaide Convention Centre. Approximately 350 people attended the awards ceremony and cocktail after party. We provided our corporate DJ services for the 3-hour cocktail afterparty.
This was our first time performing at the Adelaide Convention Centre. Their Audio Visual team was helpful and got us up and running. The sound was full and smooth, which can be a challenge for large function rooms. The effect lighting and haze machine were a nice touch too, adding some drama and mystery to the event. This helped elevate the night beyond a simple corporate get-together for drinks.
The first 1.5 hours were groovin’ while guests enjoyed paella and a gin bar. We were keen to showcase our beautiful new Condesa DJ mixer, so we played original vinyl from the 70s and 80s to get peoples’ heads nodding. We played a lot of 7” and 12” singles because they are usually mastered louder and with more dynamic range than LPs. Our song choices included “Strategy” by Archie Bell & The Drells, “It's Ecstacy When You Lay Down Next to Me” by Barry White and “Soul Power 74” by Maceo & The Macks.
We worked our way from these 100-110bpm steppers up to party mode. Knowing that guests were aged between 25-70, we covered a range of genres and eras. This included current pop divas (Beyonce, Lizzo), 90s and 00s club classics (Robin S, Spiller), and soul hits (Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin). We enjoyed ourselves and look forward to returning again next year.
